Firefox had a strong October, gaining 0.99% during the month. Much of the increase came at the expense of IE, which saw a drop of 0.84% in October. The smaller browsers did not see much change. It’s worth noting that Firefox saw a new record high in October, after having just set a record high in September.
Here is the browser market share for September 2007, based on traffic to my top site:
IE: 64.74%
Firefox: 31.81%
Opera: 1.89%

Firefox had a strong September, gaining 0.88% during the month. Much of the increase came at the expense of IE, which saw a drop of 0.92% in September. The smaller browsers did not see much change. In fact, the Firefox share number is the highest since I started reporting browser market share a year ago. Given that September is the back-to-school month, this could signify that Firefox is gaining usage among students.
Here is the browser market share for August 2007, based on traffic to my top site:
IE: 65.66%
Firefox: 30.99%
Opera: 1.83%
Safari: 0.70%
Mozilla: 0.57%
In August, IE continued its comeback, moving up 0.26% during the month. Firefox decreased by 0.14% during the same month. The smaller browsers all saw small losses: Opera lost 0.04%, Safari lost 0.03%, and Mozilla lost 0.03%. Looking forward to September, schools will be back in session, and we will see if that makes a difference to the browser market share.
Here is the browser market share for June 2007, based on traffic to my top site:
IE: 65.40%
Firefox: 31.13%
Opera: 1.87%
Safari: 0.73%
Mozilla: 0.60%
For the second month in a row, IE gained market share (+0.28%) while Firefox lost market share (-0.20%). Among the smaller players, Safari’s market share remained constant, an indication that the “Safari for Windows” product is not gaining much traction. I downloaded Safari for Windows when it first came out, but haven’t used it at all since the initial 2-3 days.
Here is the browser market share for June 2007, based on traffic to my top site:
IE: 65.12%
Firefox: 31.33%
Opera: 1.94%
Safari: 0.73%
Mozilla: 0.57%
For the first time since we started reporting browser market share numbers, IE increased market share (+0.23%) and Firefox lost market share (-0.09%). The biggest loser for June, however, was Opera, which lost 0.18%. Safari gained 0.10% during June, with Safari on Windows accounting for most of the gain (0.07%).
It appears that Safari on Windows has not made much inroads into the IE/Firefox duopoly in the browser market. It is currently only an alpha product, with bugs to be worked out, so I don’t expect much change in the browser landscape before Safari on Windows is officially in production.
