Browser Market Share, November 2012 and IE’s Browser Your Love To Hate Campaign

Here is the browser market share for November 2012, based on traffic to my top site (number in parentheses shows change from October 2012):

Google Chrome: 37.22% (+0.51%)
IE: 29.85% (-0.92%)
Firefox: 27.11% (+0.01%)
Safari: 2.86% (+0.32%)
Opera: 1.44% (+0.08%)

November 2012 was a bad month for IE, this despite the fact that Windows 8 was launched on October 26, 2012, so November was the first month that the latest Windows operating system was available for the entire month.

Faced with this constant decline in market share (in the two years between November 2010 and November 2012, IE’s market share, according to our data, went from 41.58% to 29.85% — that’s losing more than a quarter of their share in two years), Microsoft has launched an ad campaign called “The Browser You Love To Hate” to promote IE 10. Microsoft has built a microsite for this campaign at browseryoulovedtohate.com on the Tumblr platform, and has released the funny video below.

The video has garnered a lot of media attention, for example, on PC World and CNET. I find the video to be funny. Will this be enough to increase the market share for IE? We will find out next month.
