Browser Market Share, January 2013

Here is the browser market share for January 2013, based on traffic to my top site (number in parentheses shows change from December 2012):

Google Chrome: 37.09% (-0.71%)
IE: 30.90% (+1.18%)
Firefox: 26.18% (-0.19%)
Safari: 2.99% (-0.08%)
Opera: 1.23% (-0.18%)

The start of 2013 saw Google Chrome suffering its first decline in browser market share since November 2008. The big winner in January was IE, which gained 1.18% to 30.90%, while all other major browsers suffered small losses. The interesting question now is whether Chrome’s decline in January was temporary, or was it a sign that Chrome’s growth has plateaued? What we see in February should provide us some clarity into this question.
